Any hope Manchester United may have had in landing Gareth Bale have suffered a blow after Real Madrid reportedly slapped a £131million price tag on the player.

Bale, 29, joined the LaLiga giants from Tottenham for a then-world record £86m in 2013 but has struggled for first-team football this term.

He has played second-fiddle under Santiago Solari – with the caretaker boss opting to play talented Vinicius Junior ahead of the Welshman.

However, this has not stopped Real president Florentino Perez from valuing Bale at £131m, according to Spanish TV network TeleMadrid.

The winger’s career at the Bernabeu has been hampered by injuries but he has also been criticised by his own fans for an alleged lack of effort during matches.

Bale was linked with a move away from Spain when he outlined his disappointment at not starting enough games last season following his brace during Real’s Champions League final victory over Liverpool in May 2018 – a game where Bale started on the bench.
