‘Managing Celtic is the best job in the world’ – What Brendan Rodgers told talkSPORT in April 2018

Brendan Rodgers has left Celtic to become Leicester’s new boss – despite telling talkSPORT just ten months ago that managing the Scottish giants was ‘the best job in the world’.

He succeeds Claude Puel, who was sacked on Sunday, after a number of bad results at the King Power Stadium.

Rodgers’ first game in charge of the Foxes will be for their trip to Watford on Sunday, despite Celtic still fighting for titles in the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup.

It brings a successful two-and-a-half year spell in Scotland to close, with Rodgers guiding the Hoops to seven consecutive trophies and a record-breaking unbeaten season.

He was on course to seal a historic ‘treble-treble’ this term, but the lure of a return to the Premier League have proven too irresistible for the former Liverpool boss.

Rodgers spoke of his love of managing at Celtic back in an exclusive interview with talkSPORT in April 2018.

Here’s a reminder of what he said…

WARNING: This may be a depressing read for Celts fans

“I woke up here on a Monday morning as the manager of Celtic, and I’m in the best job in the world. Believe it or not the sky is blue here in Glasgow, I absolutely love it here.

“I’m so happy here at Celtic. I’m in a job I love, it’s a huge club with big expectancy and big pressure.

“There’s no doubt, I would love to work in the Premier League again one day, but I’m hopefully going to be coaching for another 20-odd years so it’s no time soon.

“The board has been so supportive of me here and, from the first day I walked in, the supporters have given me everything.

“I feel a loyalty to them to ensure we keep moving the club forward and keep progressing.”

Just ten months later, though, and it appears Rodgers’ love affair with the Scottish football is coming to an abrupt end.
