Dolph Ziggler made a surprise return to SmackDown last night and set up a WWE Championship match for Super ShowDown.
After WWE Champion Kofi Kingston defeated Sami Zayn in a non-title match, Paul Heyman appeared and teased that Brock Lesnar was there and going to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase. Instead, Ziggler attacked Kingston, wrapped his head around a steel chair, and slammed it into the announce table.
Kingston was put on a stretcher, but the attack angle ended with him insisting on walking to the back on his own.
Ziggler later cut a promo where he explained his actions, saying he’s the one who should have been taking advantage of the opportunities Kingston has over the past few months. Ziggler said he’ll win the WWE Championship from Kingston at Super ShowDown and the fans will admire, respect, and love Ziggler.
Also on SmackDown, Roman Reigns took on Elias in the main event before being laid out with a Claymore Kick by Drew McIntyre, SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley & Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch teamed against Charlotte Flair & Lacey Evans, and R-Truth disguised himself in an attempt to remain 24/7 Champion.
