Laurent Koscielny was forced off injured during Arsenal’s 3-0 Europa League victory over BATE Borisov on Thursday.

The defender hobbled off with a calf problem 57 minutes into the match and was replaced by Sokratis Papastathopoulos, who went on to score three minutes later.

Sokratis himself was only just making his way back from injury after damaging his ankle in their FA Cup defeat to Manchester United in the fourth round.

The 33-year-old missed a number of games at the start of the season after rupturing his Achilles last May during their Europa League semi-final defeat to Atletico Madrid.

Speaking after the game, Koscielny’s defensive partner on the night Shkodran Mustafi said: “I hope its nothing serious but he had a smile on his face when he came off.”

Arsenal boss Unai Emery did not appear too concerned when speaking about the centre-back after the match.

He said: “I think it’s a precaution. We are going to wait until tomorrow. I hope he is OK for Sunday.

“It’s muscular. He started to feel not good.”

The Gunners progressed to the last-16 of the competition with a 3-1 aggregate win over the side from Belarus.

An own goal early on set the tone while Mustafi and Sokratis added to the tally either side of the break to ensure they progressed.
