Beirut: Nissan’s fugitive ex-chair Carlos Ghosn appeared in public in Lebanon on Wednesday for the first time since fleeing Japan ahead of his trial for alleged financial misconduct.
###
Ghosn arrived at the press syndicate in Beirut where he was to hold a news conference – the first time he’s spoken directly and in person with journalists since his arrest in Japan in November 2018. Dozens of local and international journalists were gathered for the much-anticipated news conference by the disgraced auto industry icon. Security was tight with Lebanese policemen and a sniffer dog on hand at the venue.
###
Addressing the crowd, Ghosn described his detention conditions in Japan, from which he fled last month in a daring escape, as “travesty” against human rights and dignity.
###
At a news conference in Beirut, Ghosn also dismisses all allegations against him as untrue, saying: “I should never have been arrested in the first place.”
