Arsenal target Nicolas Pepe would thrive for a club that plays in red, according to his own manager at Lille.
Christophe Galtier made the surprising claim amid transfer interest in his talisman from the Gunners, Bayern Munich – whose home kits are red – and Paris Saint-Germain.
Reports in France say Bayern are favourites to sign Pepe, who has netted 16 Ligue 1 goals this season.
His goal tally is only bettered by PSG stars Kylian Mbappe (20) and Edinson Cavani (17).
But Lille manager Galtier also believes Pepe’s next club must be competing in the Champions League.
The 52-year-old said: “Nicolas Pepe is having a great season and he will continue to improve.
“He has to go to a Champions League club. In my opinion, he does not need an intermediate step to go as high as possible.
“I can see him well in a team that plays in red.”
Arsenal boss Unai Emery will reportedly only be given £40million to spend this summer if his side fail to qualify for the Champions League.
But Bayern’s possible capture of Pepe may not bother the Spaniard, who has prolific duo Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette at his disposal.
