After years of embarrassment of living in a village named ‘Chhakka’ (eunuch), residents of this backward hamlet in Panna district have succeeded in getting it changed. Now it will be called Mahgawan Sarkar instead of Mahgawan Chhakka.

Another village, Mahgawan Tilia, has been renamed Mahgawan Ghat as people objected to the word ‘Tilia’. They felt it had caste connotations.

Both villages are in Shahpura tehsil of Panna district. District collector Panna Manoj Khatri confirmed the name change and told TOI, “The revenue department in Bhopal issued a notification in this regard on May 25 this year.”
