ITV have announced a new deal to broadcast LaLiga matches for the remainder of the season.

The television broadcaster will air the games on ITV4 – starting with Levante vs Real Madrid this weekend – and will also feature a midweek highlights programme of all the goings-on in Spain’s top-flight division.

The deal will come as a major coup for the company as viewers in the United Kingdom can only watch the action if they have a subscription to Eleven Sports this term.

A yearly subscription to Eleven Sports costs £49.99 per year – and this new deal will save many LaLiga enthusiasts in the UK from paying the hefty fee.

One game will be shown a week, starting with the European champions’ visit to Levante on Sunday – but other high-profile clashes such as the El Clasico are set to be aired on the channel.

Sky Sports used to broadcast the action but ended their deal when they were unwilling to extend their £18million-a-year contract to show the games.

In a statement from the company, Director of Sport Niall Sloane said: “This is good news for football fans who will be able to see on free to air television some of the world’s best players in action for some of the world’s biggest clubs in a league known for its high levels of skill and entertainment from now until the end of the season.”
