Manchester United are keeping tabs on the progress of AC Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli, according to reports.
The Italy international, who is captain of the Rossoneri, signed a new deal with the San Siro outfit in the summer to keep him there until 2022.
However, his renewed deal has done little to prevent further rumours linking him with a move away – with Chelsea, Manchester United and Juventus all reported admirers of the 24-year-old.
Maurizio Sarri was keen on bringing him to Stamford Bridge earlier this term, while he was said to be one of the players on Jose Mourinho’s centre-back shortlist before his Old Trafford dismissal.
Romagnoli has established himself as a crucial member in the AC Milan set-up since his £22million move from Roma in 2015.
The club are hoping to become a force in Europe once more and are refraining from selling their top young talent such as Romagnoli and their in-form goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma in order to do so.
However, in the most recent development, Italian outlet Calcio Mercato have reported the Red Devils have been ‘observing’ the Italy ace.
Manager Gennaro Gattuso has insisted his defender will be at the club in the long run, claiming his skipper “doesn’t have a price” amid speculation on his future.
The report also stated Serie A table-toppers Juventus are tracking the youngster, but at this moment in time the Milan hierarchy are desperate to hold onto their leader as they see him as the ‘symbol of Milan’.
Furthermore, at a Nike event earlier this month, Romagnoli insisted he was content at AC Milan.
He said: “It’s an honour to be Milan captain and these are rumours I haven’t even heard of.
“I’m happy at Milan, I’m happy in Milan and as long as I’m happy, I want to stay here.”
