Child marriage is a punishable offence in India however, rural administrations or the panchayats refuse to give up on this age-old tradition.
According to this practice, children are promised to be married to each other when they are as young as two or three years old. The practice was considered as an offence on the grounds that it denied children of their right to make a decision for themselves. At such a tender age, they aren’t equipped with the understanding to choose a suitable partner for themselves and hence, the decision of child marriage is imposed on them without their consent.
In an absurd incident in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, a 22 year-old Chartered Accountant committed suicide because she was forced to keep her child marriage promise by the Panchayat, the India Today reported.Click Here: essendon bombers guernsey 2019
