Le 4 janvier 2019, Britney Spears annonçait avec beaucoup d’émotion qu’elle ne remonterait pas sur scène comme convenu à Las Vegas en février. La star de 37 ans prend une pause indéfinie dans sa carrière pour s’occuper de son père, Jamie Spears, dont la santé s’est grandement fragilisée.
Le lendemain, le 6 janvier, Britney Spears et son compagnon Sam Asghari étaient photographiés dans Los Angeles. Le couple a d’abord fait escale dans un fastfood. Britney a mangé un burger dans sa Mercedes blanche. Les amoureux se sont ensuite rendus dans une boutique pour acheter un VTT. Depuis cette sortie, la chanteuse s’est faite très discrète.
Il faut attendre le 12 janvier pour avoir des nouvelles de l’artiste. Ce jour-là, Britney Spears fête le 20e anniversaire de …Baby One More Time, son premier album, en postant quelques mots sur Instagram : “Arrivez-vous à croire que cet album est sorti il y a vingt ans jour pour jour aujourd’hui ??!! Moi pas. Cela a vraiment été le parcours d’une vie, plein de hauts et de bas, mais je suis très reconnaissante pour chacun de ces moments. Apprendre à vous connaître pendant toutes ces années a été une expérience tellement incroyable et a donné un sens à tout ça. Merci pour votre soutien depuis vingt ans. Je suis bénie.“
Britney Spears devait retrouver Las Vegas avec Domination, un nouveau spectacle. Les fans attendaient également avec impatience un nouvel album. Finalement, la star va se consacrer à sa famille et plus spécialement à son père qui a été longuement hospitalisé fin 2018. “Mon père a été hospitalisé et a failli mourir, écrivait Britney sur Instagram. Nous sommes si heureux qu’il en soit sorti vivant, mais il lui reste beaucoup de chemin à parcourir. J’ai dû prendre la décision difficile de me concentrer sur ma famille pour le moment. J’espère que vous comprenez.” Les fans retrouveront cependant la star dans Corporate Animals, un film d’horreur avec Demi Moore présenté au Festival de Sundance. Britney y fait une courte apparition dans son propre rôle.

I don’t even know where to start with this, because this is so tough for me to say. I will not be performing my new show Domination. I’ve been looking forward to this show and seeing all of you this year, so doing this breaks my heart. However, it’s important to always put your family first… and that’s the decision I had to make.
