There are two known truths in the universe. First, that Die Hard is the greatest action film of all time. And second, that Dwayne Johnson is the single most popular action star of the 21st century so far. Put them together and what do you get…?
Can’t you just imagine a dark and brooding Dwayne crawling his way through the vents of Nakatomi Tower, picking off bad guys one by one, covered in blood and grime, desperately trying to save his estranged lover from certain death at the hands of Hans Gruber? I’d say it’s a script handmade for our beloved Rocky, but Die Hard has basically inspired every action film for the last 30 years.
I have a feeling Johnson’s version of the film would be a lot more… action-y. There’s really no such thing as subtlety in Hollywood these days after all. But if they stick to the major hits and beats of the original, with a solid director that can actually pull a performance out of the leading man, a few extra explosions won’t stop this potential remake from being one of the most lucrative films of all time.
