Chris Jericho Says He Could Probably Beat Conor McGregor, Steve Austin Compares UFC 229 Chaos to Pro Wrestling

In case you missed it, Conor McGregor submitted to a rear naked choke from the undefeated Khabib Nurmagomedov on Saturday night at UFC 229. After losing his first professional MMA fight in two years, and being knocked silly by boxing legend Floyd Mayweather, perhaps its time for the infamous Irishman to try his luck in a more… scripted environment.

Responding to a fan on Twitter, Chris Jericho said “why not!” to the idea of facing McGregor in a UFC ring, joking that even he “could probably beat [Conor] at this point”, just hours after the fight went down.

Why not, indeed. Y2J already has a world famous rock band, is a current reigning champion in New Japan Pro Wrestling, and is about to embark on his very own cruise. If CM Punk was able to score two fights in the UFC octagon, it’s at least possible that Jericho could fair better.

Why not! I could probably beat @TheNotoriousMMA at this point… https://t.co/L7U4xefwFd

As noted, Khabib scoring a submission victory over McGregor was definitely not the highlight of the evening, as the Russian fighter climbed over the barricade just seconds after his win, brawling with one of his opponent’s teammates. It was a wild affair that ended in three of the champ’s team in jail, and the future of the UFC lightweight title potentially in jeopardy.

Chris Jericho wasn’t the only wrestling personality paying attention to the post-fight, as “Stone Cold” Steve Austin sent out a tweet after the fighting simply remarking, “I love professional wrestling”.

This wasn’t the first time a UFC event ended in a bit of WWE-esque chaos. Just a few months ago, Brock Lesnar hit the octagon after the main event to announce his return and scuffle a bit with Daniel Cormier…

I love Professional Wrestling.
