Speaking to reporters yesterday in a press conference, André Pierre Gignac spoke about the forthcoming EURO 2016 tournament and more. Highlights.

On being selected for EURO 2016:

I am always happy to be here, I am happy and I hope to project that to the others. I have a fair amount of faults but I have a particular character. By going to Mexico, I did not give myself the best opportunity but I am here. I never told myself that me and the French national team were finished and I am proud to have been called up from so far away. I am calm but the closer we get to the Euros the more pressure there will be. It will rise little by little.

On Marseille’s season:

Not an easy season to take. As I am a fan, I can criticise. I am very hurt. I hope that Marseille saves their season! As well, against Paris!

On Marcelo Bielsa:

The Bielsa method was very enriching but very tiring. I progressed defensively and mentally with him. I am the same player but more mature thanks to Bielsa.

On who will start for France:

Olivier Giroud has scored 4 goals in 2 games so let’s relax. Olivier has an advantage and I hope that he will perform well.

On Didier Deschamps:

He has not changed much since Marseille. He is a winner. We would be wise to listen to him!

On Dimitri Payet:

In Mexico we have TV and we watch English matches so yes. West Ham should thank him.

On Hatem Ben Arfa:

We do not speak with the reserves about the 23 man squad. Ben Arfa has incredible brilliance but it is not I who decides.

On Karim Benzema:

Benzema is the best number 9 in the world with Luis Suarez, but we have a good mix of experience and youth and we can go far.
