Speaking to Eurosport following his first title as a 1st team manager, Rennes boss Julien Stéphan savoured an exceptional Coupe de France victory over PSG.

“It was exceptional. I believe that it summarised the paradox of Stade Rennais. We win on the day that nobody expected us to at all. We were outsiders against a great Paris team with some truly great players. The players put in an extraordinary match, magnificent in terms of organisation, courage, self-sacrifice and also technical quality in moments. We are enjoying some exceptional moments. It punctuates a remarkable season in terms of emotions. We are going to lift the cup and take it to Brittany. It will be a celebration that I imagine will be exceptional.”

“[At half-time] I said to the players that things were in the process of turning around, the 2-1 goal put us in the best conditions, I sensed that there could have been fragility and a little bit of nervousness from our opposition that we had press on, believe in ourselves, and above all remain very coherent in terms of our game-plan. That is what our players did very very well. They controlled the spaces well. They were recompensed with a match that will enter our history books.”
