In his press conference ahead of his Clermont side’s match against Marseille this weekend, Pascal Gastien has indicated that the club could impose sanctions on striker Mohamed Bayo following his involvement in a road accident and subsequent arrest.
Bayo was placed under police custody last Sunday after reportedly driving past a red light and colliding with another car while his blood alcohol level was over the legal limit. The forward then tried to escape the scene before being arrested by police not far from the scene of the accident.
After being released on Monday – with a court hearing set for June 2022 – the 23-year-old took to social media to apologise and admit his errors.
His words transcribed in L’Équipe, Gastien indicated that a sanction had not yet been imposed, but that one would likely be decided privately, with the club nevertheless supporting its goalscorer. The manager explained that he did not know whether Bayo will play for Sunday night’s reception of Marseille.
