AS Monaco have signed former Metz goalkeeper Thomas Didillon (26) on loan from satellite side, Cercle Brugge, for the upcoming season.

The Frenchman has been on trial at the club since the side’s return to pre-season training. He has also featured in Monaco’s pre-season friendlies and also made the trip for the side’s training camp in Portugal.

Didillon will be the club’s second-choice goalkeeper, behind loanee Alexander Nübel (25), who is in the second year of a two-year loan from Bayern Munich. Meanwhile, sporting director Paul Mitchell revealed that the club won’t replace Vito Mannone (34), whose contract at Monaco expired this summer. The club will instead trust in youth goalkeepers including Yann Lienard (19), Alain Zadi (18) and Lisandru Olmeta (17).

Didillon takes the place vacated by Radoslaw Majecki (22), who made the opposite switch to Cercle Brugge on a straight loan. Neither deal includes an option for a permanent transfer.
