Backstage News On Why Brock Lesnar vs Jinder Mahal Might Get a Special Guest Referee
As seen on WWE Raw last night, Brock Lesnar accepted Jinder Mahal’s WWE Survivor Series match challenge, so the Universal Champion vs WWE Champion bout is now official for the PPV next month.
Yesterday, we reported the early word is the bout will be getting a special guest referee, with John Cena being discussed for the role, however that has not been confirmed at this point.

On today’s edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, hosts Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer discussed Brock Lesnar vs Jinder Mahal in more detail, noting that the idea of adding John Cena to the bout as the referee would make sense from a story line standpoint, as it could plant the seed for a possible Cena vs Mahal Title feud when Cena returns to WWE full-time following his current movie commitments.
Dave Meltzer added that the idea of booking a name like John Cena to referee the match is so that Brock Lesnar will have an interesting, high profile name to be in the ring with. As seen on Raw last night, Paul Heyman essentially buried Jinder Mahal during his in-ring promo, saying Mahal is not Lesnar’s equal and is a “consolation prize Champion” on Smackdown Live.
