One of NXT’s top stars has reportedly agreed to a new contract with WWE.
Fightful Select reported today that Pete Dunne has agreed to a new three-year deal with WWE. The report stated that the deal was personally offered to Dunne by Paul “Triple H” Levesque prior to Levesque being sidelined due to health issues. Levesque recently underwent a successful procedure following a cardiac event.
Dunne’s previous contract with WWE was set to expire at the end of last month.
Dunne will be one of four wrestlers vying for the vacant NXT Championship tonight. Dunne will face Tommaso Ciampa, Kyle O’Reilly, and LA Knight in a fatal four-way match for the title on tonight’s NXT. The show will mark the start of “NXT 2.0,” the newly revamped version of the brand.
Dunne vs. Ciampa vs. O’Reilly vs. Knight was originally announced as a number one contender’s match to determine the first challenger for Samoa Joe’s NXT Championship, but Joe had to vacate the title due to injury. Joe said he’d be back shortly to collect the NXT Championship from whoever wins it.
In 2017, Dunne made his WWE debut as part of the United Kingdom Championship tournament. He’s a former NXT United Kingdom Champion and NXT Tag Team Champion.
