WEDNESDAY NEWS UPDATE

WWE
Olympic gold medalist wrestler Gable Steveson told Sports Illustrated that he’ll be attending SummerSlam: “I’m heading over to Vegas to watch the champ Roman Reigns do his thing. John Cena is great, but he’s still going to have to acknowledge Roman Reigns.”
Steveson also said that he’d be a “Paul Heyman Guy” if he were to ever sign with WWE: “If I ever go to WWE, I’d be a ‘Paul Heyman Guy.’ Heyman is a legend. We’d be two people doing great things, and that would be a tough team to beat. And I’ve known Brock since I was in high school. He’s been there for me for a long time, making sure I do things the right way and put my best foot forward.”
Sasha Banks appeared on the latest episode of Barstool Sports’ Rasslin’ with Brandon F. Walker podcast. Banks discussed headlining WrestleMania 37 night one this April: “To main event WrestleMania, that was my biggest, biggest, biggest dream, so big that I didn’t even think it was possible. You would never think that as a woman in WWE or as a woman in general that you would be in the headline, main eventing, Wrestle Frickin Mania. To go out there and wrestle in front of a crowd when we hadn’t been in front of them for a year in a half. To get the reception we did and to deliver and kill it and to have people still talk about that match, it’s the best feeling in the world. To go home, leaving people happy and saying ‘that was the match of the night, that was the main event, male or female, period. That was just the greatest.’ That’s something we’re going to remember for the rest of our lives.”
On last night’s NXT, Gigi Dolin picked up her first win since signing with WWE. Dolin defeated Amari Miller on the show. Dolin is now part of a duo with Jacy Jayne in NXT. WWE uploaded a post-show interview with them after Dolin’s win.
PWInsider reported that Rob Conway is guest coaching at the WWE Performance Center this week.
In an extra clip to promote Sunday’s Broken Skull Sessions episode, Bobby Lashley answered rapid-fire questions from Steve Austin.
AJ Styles & Omos, Odyssey Jones, and Raquel Gonzalez were guests on this morning’s edition of WWE’s The Bump.
Goldberg, WALTER, and Ilja Dragunov are set to appear on The Bump next Wednesday.
Today is Hulk Hogan’s 68th birthday. Kay Lee Ray also turns 29 today.
WWE’s YouTube channel uploaded Jeff Hardy vs. CM Punk in a TLC match for the World Heavyweight Championship from SummerSlam 2009, Dolph Ziggler vs. Kofi Kingston for the Intercontinental title from SummerSlam 2010, and John Cena vs. Kane for the United States title from the April 20, 2015 episode of Raw.
Other Wrestling
AEW announced this week’s roster rankings. The Acclaimed are out of the top five in the tag team division following Max Caster’s rap on last week’s AEW Dark. They were ranked second last week.
Britt Baker and Wardlow appeared on Mark Madden’s radio show yesterday to promote this week’s Dynamite and Rampage in Pittsburgh.
TNT has announced that there will be watch parties for the Rampage premiere in Pittsburgh, Chicago, and New York City this Friday. There will be two watch parties in each city.
Eddie Kingston will make his Defy Wrestling debut at the promotion’s Mad Kingdom show at Washington Hall in Seattle on Saturday, September 25.
Denise Salcedo interviewed Christopher Daniels at the blue carpet premiere for Starz’s “Heels.”
A Pure Rules match with The World Famous CB (Cheeseburger) facing LSG has been added to ROH Glory By Honor night two. Glory By Honor is taking place at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia on Friday, August 20 and Saturday, August 21. Both shows will air live on HonorClub.
Matt Clement (formerly known as Tyler Breeze) is the guest on today’s edition of Insight with Chris Van Vliet. When asked if he wants to return to pro wrestling, Clement said he doesn’t think now is the right time for him to go to AEW: “It depends. I mean there’s a lot happening in wrestling right now. It’s cool and it’s something we tell our students at Flatbacks (the wrestling school he and Shawn Spears owns). We say to the students, ‘Guys, it’s not as far away as you think. The students we are training now have been on AEW Dark and NXT. It’s right there. Right now is a good time in wrestling. But right now, let’s say on AEW, there are a lot of people debuting, and there are a lot of people moving around all over the place. If I go there, I don’t know if it would make a massive impact. Now it’s kind of the norm. People are going over there, and there might be some big names going over there. Nobody knows what is happening, but I don’t think now is the right time for me to go there. At the same time, I have wrestled for 14 years straight. I’m okay with taking a little bit of a break. My body likes it, and I am getting enough wrestling at the school to keep my body good. I’m not currently taking any bookings. Going out there and getting injured, it doesn’t really appeal to me. If there was a match that was fun, I think I might do it, but I have scratched the wrestling itch, but if it comes back, maybe.”
Lance Storm appeared on today’s episode of Talk is Jericho and analyzed Chris Jericho vs. Juventud Guerrera from WCW SuperBrawl VIII.
