WWE has issued an official statement regarding media reports circulating about their treatment of female talent.

The issue became a hot topic on social media and within the pro wrestling internet media this week after two key points on WWE programming. Those two points included Ric Flair forcibly kissing Becky Lynch as a distraction spot during a match, a spot that was laughed off as if it were a comedy spot by the announcers, and The Rock’s entire interaction with Lana during a backstage segment, where it was alluded to that Lana cheated on Rusev with The Rock the last time he was on RAW.

Alex Groot wrote an article for Vocativ.com called, “WWE’s Looming Sexism Problem,” which prompted the following response statement from WWE:

“WWE programming, which features fictional characters that cover a range of personalities similar to movies and television shows, tells stories of good versus evil. In addition, as our on-going storylines develop, we will continue to position women as both strong competitors and compelling individuals.”
