MMAFighting.com is reporting that UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is “being sought for questioning” in a hit-and-run incident early Sunday morning in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Rumors have run rampant Sunday night that the 27-year-old Jones was out of his impending May title defense against Anthony Johnson, the main event of UFC 189, due to the incident. However, the fight is still on as of now.
The MMA Fighting report states that a middle-aged woman was struck by another vehicle which fled the scene. There is no warrant for his arrest, but they don’t know of Jones’ whereabouts.
Earlier Sunday, the ABQ police tweeted this:
We CANNOT confirm that Jon Jones was involved in a H&R traffic accident from this morning. The investigation is ongoing.

They haven’t tweeted since then, but that they cited a public figure in a tweet was quite interesting.
Jones (21-1) last competed in early-January, defeating rival Daniel Cormier via unanimous decision to retain his title for the eighth time. Since rising to prominence, Jones has found himself at the center of controversy due to a failed cocaine test, a DUI arrest, and various social media follies.
