The National Wrestling Coaches’ Association announced three Gopher grapplers and the U of M team as a whole earned All-Academic honors this season
On Friday, the National Wrestling Coaches’ Association (NWCA) announced its All-Academic teams and individuals for the 2014-15 season. Gopher Wrestling was well-represented, with Minnesota appearing on both lists.
From a team perspective, the Gophers not only showed up on the NWCA Division I All-Academic Top 30 Teams list, they finished in the top 10. Minnesota’s tenth-place finish overall was the third-highest among all public schools and the best in the entire Big Ten.
As individuals, senior Scott Schiller and sophomores Michael Kroells and Brett Pfarr were all honored as NWCA All-Academic. Only 10 programs in the country had more individuals recognized by the NWCA.
Schiller graduated earlier this spring with a degree in Business and Marketing Education after finishing a three-time All-American career, making him one of just 25 Gophers to earn three All-America medals. Schiller’s academic prowess isn’t new this season – he’s also a four-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree who has been previously recognized as NWCA All-Academic.
Kroells is an Aerospace Engineering major who has collected a Three Wrestlers and Team Recognized for Academics

series of academic accolades this season, including his second Academic All-Big Ten and CoSIDA Academic All-District. At the NCAA Championships this March, Kroells added All-American to his resume, the first All-America finish of his young career.
Pfarr, having grown up on a farm in Le Sueur, Minn., is pursuing a degree in Agricultural and Food Business Management. Like Kroells, Pfarr is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten student. In his first year as a full-time starter, Pfarr was an NCAA qualifier after a runner-up finish at the 2015 Big Ten Championships.
