Cody Rhodes has gotten wrestling fans talking with the launch of the new All Elite Wrestling promotion and with his recent surprise appearances on independent wrestling shows, but he is currently taking some time off from competing in the ring. The AEW executive injured his knee late last year, but still wrestled at ROH’s Final Battle event in December and NJPW’s Wrestle Kingdom show on January 4th. In the newest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it was reported that Cody is now set to have knee on February 12th. The report notes that Rhodes is only expected to miss about two or three months of action due to the surgery, but he likely won’t wrestle again until AEW’s Double or Nothing event on May 25th.
Quite a number of WWE Superstars have been requesting their releases from the company as of late. The likes of Dean Ambrose, Hideo Itami, Mike & Maria Kanellis, and The Revival are all said to be frustrated with their positions in WWE and are on their way out as soon as possible. During last night’s tapings for NXT, wrestling veteran Kassius Ohno teased that he may also be finished with the company soon. Fans in attendance for the tapings say that Ohno cut a promo informing the NXT fans that he has options outside of WWE and could go to a promotion that appreciates his services more. It is unclear right now if last night’s tapings really did mark the end of Ohno’s WWE run or if it is part of a storyline as of yet.

During the TV tapings for NXT last night, a member of WWE’s cruiserweight division made a surprise appearance. None other than Drew Gulak returned to Full Sail University for a segment involving NXT Superstar Matt Riddle. After defeating Bugenhagen earlier in the night, the 205 Live Superstar requested a match with Riddle. Matt Riddle did eventually accept Gulak’s demand for a match and he went on to defeat his fellow former EVOLVE star later during the tapings. Matt Riddle is a rising star on NXT right now, and Gulak has made some NXT appearances in the past in addition to his regular weekly appearances on 205 Live. Expect to see the match between Drew Gulak and Matt Riddle air on NXT very soon.
