For WWE fans, there is no bigger event lined up this year than WrestleMania 35. However, for fans of the Marvel Comics films, the upcoming Avenger: Endgame movie holds that honor. It has already been confirmed that Batista will be appearing during WrestleMania this year, and it has been widely speculated that he will make an appearance as Drax the Destroyer in the new film. Batista portrays Drax in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies, but there was some controversy last year over the decision to fire GOTG director James Gunn from all future projects. Several fans and stars argued for Gunn to be brought back and Dave Bautista was of Gunn’s biggest supporters. He even threatened to quit playing the character is Gunn wasn’t rehired.
It looks like Batista has gotten exactly what he has wanted this week. Not only did Triple H accept his invitation for a match at WrestleMania this April, but Disney and Marvel announced today that James Gunn has been officially reinstated. Gunn will be coming back to direct the third installment in the Guardians film series. Gunn was fired after some tweets from years ago that some found offensive were uncovered. Gunn apologized after the tweets were discovered. Batista will continue to appear in the films that he has already shot or is legally required to be in, but with Gunn now back in the fold, perhaps “The Animal’s” Marvel appearances will continue for years to come. Meanwhile, Batista will be appearing on WWE shows in the weeks leading up to his in-ring return.
Kofi Kingston has been fighting for the opportunity to win the WWE Championship for eleven years now. He may finally get the chance to face Daniel Bryan for the title at WrestleMania 35, but it won’t be easy for the New Day member. Kofi will compete in a Gauntlet match during SmackDown this Tuesday night and he will officially earn the championship match if he can win the match. The WWE Stats & Info Twitter account let fans in on an interesting stat involving Kingston’s big match. According to them, no one has ever been able to eliminate more than four opponents in a row and go on to win. Kingston will be taking on Samoa Joe, Randy Orton, The Bar, and Rowan during the match next week, so the deck spas certainly been stacked against him.
No @WWE Superstar has ever won a Gauntlet Match in which they were responsible for eliminating more than 4 opponents in a row all by his/herself.
In 1999, @steveaustinBSR eliminated 5 straight members of The Corporation on #RAW before falling to the 6th opponent – @VinceMcMahon. https://t.co/x0pOsqBuCT
