Greek league started with big surprise from PAOK

First round matches of Greek championship finished yesterday with the game between Iraklis and Lamia. In Friday’s game Apollon Kalamaria having great performance lost tight game with Panathinaikos 3-2. 

 

Lappas with 24 points was the best player of Panathinaikos.

The big surprise took place in Athens the following day where PAOK won 3-2 (25-20, 21-25, 16-25, 25-22, 13-15) over Olympiakos. We have to admit that the last year’s champion played the game without Andrey Zekov and Jason Jablonsky. From PAOK team Marco Bojic with 25 points and Sander Steinberg with 21 points was the best players.  In other game results Aris won 3-1 (24-26, 25-19, 25-22, 25-22) over Epikouros and Kifisia won with the same score Ethnikos Alexandroupolis.

EAPatron without reaching maximum efficiency won 3-1 (22-25, 25-13, 25-22, 25-16) over Panellinios with Pedro Dornellas scoring 31 points.

On Monday’s game Iraklis Thessaloniki’s did not found any difficulties to easily win 3-1 (18-25, 25-19, 25-15, 25-19) over Lamia. Although Alekos Leonis the coach of Iraklis had to played without middleblockers Sergiu Stancu and Charalambidis his team was much better in this position and finally took 13 block points. The stars of the team Brook Billings scored 22 points and outside hitters Rodrigo Quiroga 16. Also Jay Ryan Owens was amazing scoring 15 points with great statistics (attacking efficiency 91%)

In the next round matches there is a great battle on Friday between Panathinaikos and EAPatron and also the next games: Iraklis – AO Kifisias,   Ethnikos Alexandroupolis – Olympiakos,   PAOK – Apollon Kalamarias,   Panellinios – Aris Marmouris,   Lamia – Epikouros.
