Cobbers Take Control Early in Dual Win Over SJU
MOORHEAD, Minn. – Concordia recorded six bonus-point wins in a 36-12 dual victory over Saint John’s on Friday, Jan. 31, in Moorhead.
The Cobbers (6-4 dual record) also earned a forfeit at 125 pounds.
Sophomore Jacob Scherber (Buffalo, Minn.) stopped the skid for SJU (1-5 dual record) with an 8-2 decision at 174 pounds for his team-leading 19th win of the season.
Senior Quincy Spiering (Mounds View, Minn./St. Thomas Academy) earned a pin, as the first period expired, at heavyweight for the fifth win in his last six matches.
The bout of the night, the dual’s final, featured senior Noah Becker (Browerville, Minn.) and the Cobbers’ Jacob Prunty at 133 pounds. Becker, who is ranked as high as No. 3 by D3wrestle.com, posted an 8-2 win over Prunty, who is ranked No. 6 by the National Wrestling Coaches’ Association (Becker is No. 5). The victory is the 12th consecutive for Becker, who is now 16-1 on the year.
The Johnnies travel to compete at Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s Blugold Open at 10 a.m. next Saturday, Feb. 8.
