HOUSTON, TX — Homicide investigators have arrested a 20-year-old man in the shooting death of 7-year-old Jazmine Barnes. Eric Black Jr, 20, is charged with capital murder, and is being held in the Harris County Jail without bond. A second suspect is also in custody in connection to the case and could also face charges, police said.
Investigators with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office arrested Black without incident after receiving a tip, police said.
Investigators said they think the tragic shooting may have been a case of mistaken identity, and don’t believe Barnes and her family were the intended targets.

According to police, Jazmine Barnes was riding in a car driven by her mother, LaPorsha Washington at about 6:50 a.m. on Dec. 30. As the family drove along in the southbound lanes of E. Sam Houston Parkway frontage road just south of Wallisville Road, a man driving a red four-door pickup, pulled up next to the car and started shooting.
Jazmine was shot and killed, and her mother was wounded in the attack.
This is a developing story.
