Greek taskforce takes its toll on the internal market and services directorate-general.

The European Commission’s taskforce to provide technical assistance to Greece is having a knock-on effect on the Commission’s internal market and services directorate-general.

The taskforce, which was set up in July and made its first visit to Greece earlier this month, is headed by Horst Reichenbach, former vice-president of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and a former Commission director-general. It also features Jörgen Holmquist, a former director-general for the internal market, and David Wright, a former deputy director-general in the same department.

Maria Velentza, who was in charge of financial stability in DG Markt, is also now moving to the taskforce. She will be replaced by Nathalie de Basaldua, who was overseeing the Commission’s work on the audit industry.

Things could get quite messy when the taskforce’s work is finished and Commission officials need to go back to their day jobs.
