Dinesh Kumar, a resident of Vargavan village under Shishgarh police station in the city, was found guilty of killing his wife on Saturday which also happened to be the couple’s fourth wedding anniversary. Four months after their wedding, on February 24, 2014, Vinita was found dead and Dinesh charged with murder over dowry. The fast-court gave Dinesh a life imprisonment and also slapped him with a fine of Rs 20,000.

In his statement to the court, Vinita’s father Ram Prakash, a resident of Basai village, said, “Soon after their marriage, my daughter’s husband and her mother-in-law began demanding Rs 4 lakh as dowry. They told me that Dinesh wanted to do a professional course for which the money was required.” Prakash also said that Dinesh had abused his daughter when she was unable to give him the money.
