A father has been caught by the police in Delhi, India after killing his daughter over an affair with a boy he disapproved of. An accomplice was also arrested.

The incident took place on July 24, it came to light only recently after police apprehended the girl’s father, 50-year-old Lakhan and his aide, 30-year-old Raj who belong to north Delhi’s Azadpur, according to a report by news magazine India Today’s website.

Investigators said they have confessed to the crime, the report stated.

Sources in the police department were quoted as saying that the girl’s father was reportedly unhappy over her relationship with a boy for which they would get into arguments often and it eventually led to her alleged murder.

In July this year, police received information that a girl named Sheetal committed suicide and her family members have rushed her body to a cremation ground.

Police reached the girl’s residence and confirmed that the body was taken. Once the authorities reached the cremation ground, all the arrangements to carry out the ceremony were made, however the police stopped the family right when the cremation was set to begin.

Police from Delhi’s Adarsh Nagar station then took the body to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial (BJRM) Hospital for post mortem examination to determine the cause of death, according to India Today’s report.

The doctor at the hospital was quoted as saying “multiple external injuries due to asphyxia caused by manual strangulation” is the cause of death. Adarsh Nagar police then registered a case and an investigation begun.
