LUCKNOW, Uttar Pradesh: A man pronounced dead by doctors at a hospital on Monday “woke up” as preparations were being made for his funeral.

###

In a scene that seemed straight out of a movie, relatives were preparing the final rites when the body of a man, identified as Mohamamd Furqan, 20, arrived at home at the C Block in Indiranagar.

###

Sobs could be heard when the ambulance came, according to Indian media reports.

###

Then, relatives and mourners saw Furqan’s body started moving as it was being taken out. This turned their grief to utter astonishment.

###

Mohammad Furqan was involved in an accident on Sultanpur Road on June 21. He was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Niralanagar and was  on life support.

###

“The hospital…started charging us huge fees,” Furqan’s elder brother Irfan narrated their ordeal to the Times of India. “We paid Rs7 lakhs (about $10,150). And when we informed the hospital that we had run out of money, they declared Furqan dead on Monday (July 1),” his brother Mohammad Irfan told the paper.

###

“When we took the body home, a family member noticed that he was breathing. Others standing there also saw limb movement. We then rushed him to RML (Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Combined hospital) immediately,” he added.

###

Alive

###

Doctors at RML found Furqan to be alive and immediately put him on oxygen support.

###

But due to the unavailability of a ventilator, he was later moved to a private medical facility in Indira Nagar.

###

Dr Ashok Nirala, the doctor treating Furqan at the private medical facility, told the TOI: “The patient is in critical condition, but definitely not brain dead.”

###

“He has a pulse, blood pressure and his reflexes are working. He has been put on ventilator support.”

###

Chief medical officer (CMO) of Lucknow, Dr Narendra Agarwal told TOI: “We have taken cognizance of the incident and the matter will be thoroughly probed.”
