Thiruvananthapuram: A woman and her partner in Kerala have been taken into custody over the alleged murder of the woman’s 16-year-old daughter.

The incident occurred at Nedumangad on the outskirts of the state capital and the accused have been identified as Manjusha, 34, and her partner Aneesh, 29.

The body of Manjusha’s daughter, Meera, was found in a well nearby. Meera was a Class XI student at the Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Nedumangad.

It is the latest case of an extramarital affair leading to a child’s death in the state.
###
The accused initially told police teenager Meera had hanged herself, and they had only dumped her body in the well, but a post mortem indicated the deceased had been strangulated.

The exact date of Meera’s death is yet to be ascertained but accused Manjusha told her mother Valsala on June 11 that Meera was missing.

Manjusha later told Valsala that she feared Meera had absconded with someone to neighbouring Tamil Nadu state and that she herself was going to Tamil Nadu to look for her.

Instead, Manjusha and Aneesh fled to Tamil Nadu after allegedly dumping Meera’s body in the well. Later, they turned incommunicado. When she could not get Manjusha on the phone, Valasala panicked and informed police on June 17 that her daughter and granddaughter were both missing.

A police investigation helped track Manjusha and Aneesh to Tamil Nadu, and both were taken into custody. Meera’s decomposed body was then retrieved from the well.

In March this year, Arun Anand, 36, the live-in partner of a woman in Thodupuzha had battered to death the woman’s seven-year-old elder son.

Police filed a charge sheet in the case last week.

The battered boy was belatedly taken to a hospital in Kolencherry where he died 10 days after admission.

In the case charge sheet, Anand has been named the first accused and the boy’s mother is the second accused.

Another charge sheet has also been submitted against Anand for sexually abusing the younger of the two boys of the woman.
###
The charges against Anand include sections related to murder, delaying of treatment and suppressing facts.
