Stoke are planning to sell Saido Berahino when the summer transfer window opens after the striker was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving on Monday morning.

Berahino, 25, was picked up by police at 3am in London and reportedly told officers he was fleeing from a gang who were trying to steal his car.

Police were called to VQ in central London and saw the former England youth international speed off in a black Ranger Rover upon their arrival.

He was later stopped and arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.

“On Monday, 18 February at around 03:00 hours police were called to a disturbance in Great Russell Street, WC1,” a police statement read. “When officers arrived on scene a car was seen to drive away at speed.

“The car was stopped by police in Bedford Square and a 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drink drive.”

Stoke are believed to have taken a dim view of Berahino’s actions, and the Daily Mail claim the Championship club will look to offload him as soon as the transfer window reopens this summer.

The Potters are also planning to fine the former West Brom player £80,000, which equates to two weeks’ wages.

Berahino has played 26 times for Stoke this season, scoring five goals. He joined the Championship club in January 2017 for £12million.

Berahino was previously suspended from driving in 2015 after pleading guilty to a drink-driving charge.
