Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has set a new Premier League record for the most points won by a manager in his first 10 league matches in charge after his injury-hit Manchester United side drew to Liverpool on Sunday.

The Norwegian, who took over on a interim basis after Jose Mourinho’s sacking in December, has collected 26 points during that period – surpassing the record held by former Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink.

He already has the record as the most successful start of anyone at the club with six consecutive wins.

Solskjaer, 45, remains unbeaten in the top flight after United and their bitter rivals played out a tense 0-0 draw in front of a packed-out Old Trafford.

It could prove to be a valuable point in their bid to secure a top-four spot, which was all the more impressive considering their current injury woes.

Speaking after the game the United boss bemoaned his side’s luck, after Juan Mata, Ander Herrera and substitute Jesse Lingard all hobbled off during the first half through injury.

He said: “Everything that could have gone wrong in the first half went wrong.

“We had four injuries – we had to keep Marcus Rashford on – it seemed like it was going to be a tough afternoon.”

United face a trip to Crystal Palace on Wednesday night before entertaining Southampton at Old Trafford next Saturday.
