Sunday’s derby between Manchester United and Liverpool is live on talkSPORT and is a monumental occasion in the race for the title.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are hoping for a victory to regain top spot in the Premier League and pile the pressure back on their title competitors Manchester City.
While Ole Gunnar Solskjaer high-flying Red Devils will aim to get one-up over their bitter adversary to continue their superb surge for Champions League qualification. But who will start the match?
talkSPORT.com has given their verdict on who makes the XI for both sides, along with all the team news ahead of the clash.
Manchester United
Solskjaer is hopeful that Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard will return for the derby after the pair picked up injuries against Paris-Saint Germain in the Champions League last week.
David De Gea will be reinstated in goal for the match after Sergio Romero’s appearance in the FA Cup victory against Chelsea on Monday.
Romelu Lukaku and Juan Mata, who both started against the Blues, are both available for the match but will likely only make the substitutes bench.
United’s midfield trio of Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba and Ander Hererra will comprise the midfield – with Herrera impressive against Chelsea and Pogba enjoying the form of his career under his new Norwegian boss.
Predicted line-up:
Liverpool
Virgil Van Dijk is set to return to the starting XI after he missed out on the Reds’ Champions League draw against Bayern Munich – and will likely be paired with Joel Matip at the heart of defence.
This means that Fabinho, who filled in for the Dutchman for the midweek clash, will likely move back into the midfield in front of the back line.
Manchester United v Liverpool is live on talkSPORT at 14:05 on Sunday, February 24.
Georginio Wijnaldum, who has been crucial in the Reds’ stellar campaign so far this term, will take up the more advanced central role along with skipper Jordan Henderson – meaning James Milner will miss out on the starting XI.
Liverpool’s front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah will complete the line-up for Klopp’s men.
