Miguel Almiron was wanted by Manchester United before moving to Newcastle, according to the Paraguay international’s agent Daniel Campo.
The Magpies secured the £16million signing of Almiron from Atlanta United in January which could rise to £21m.
Newcastle‘s attempts to bring the 25-year-old in almost fell through but club chiefs resurrected the transfer to seal the deal on deadline day.
Speaking to ParaguayTVHD, Campo said: “Manchester United was interested in Miguel Almiron.”
Campo went on to suggest that Newcastle have signed the ultimate professional, adding: “He [Almiron] does not like to go out, he is a boy who likes to be at home, Miguel is a boy who has an impeccable conduct.”
Almiron made his debut for the Premier League club during their 1-1 draw at Wolves earlier this month and Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez is pondering whether to start him in their crucial clash against Huddersfield this weekend.
Benitez said: “It is just a question of his understanding with the others to see if he can start or not – but I am sure he will give us something.
“He is someone who is working hard, trying to be involved and his commitment is positive for the team.”
