Liverpool welcome Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich to Anfield tonight for their Champions League Round of 16 first-leg.

The Reds were beaten finalists last season, going down 3-1 to Real Madrid who knocked out Bayern in the semi-finals.

Liverpool chief Jurgen Klopp had several run-ins with Bayern during his time at Borussia Dortmund and he’ll be eager to get one over his old rivals this evening.

The two have not faced each other in a competitive match since the 2001 Super Cup which Liverpool won 3-2 in Monaco.

Both sides have some key injuries to contend with ahead of the 8pm kick-off but will both be looking to secure an advantage ahead of the return leg in Munich on March 13.

Liverpool are without key defender Virgil van Dijk who must serve a one-match ban.

Dejan Lovren and Joe Gomez are out meaning midfielder Fabinho plays alongside Joel Matip in central defence.

Klopp was sweating over Roberto Firmino but Brazilian forward has overcome a virus to start.

Former Bayern winger Xherdan Shaqiri has also recovered from an abdominal injury to be on the bench.

For Bayern, star stopper Manuel Neuer is fit to face Liverpool having returned to action in last Friday’s win over Augsburg.

Experienced attacking duo Arjen Robben and Thomas Muller are out while Jerome Boateng won’t feature do to illness.

Kingsley Coman does start despite limping off against Augsburg.
