Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has donated £2,500 to the family of an 18-year-old who died after allegedly being stabbed on a night out.
Sunderland fan Connor Brown was fatally assaulted outside a pub and died in the early hours of Sunday morning.
A GoFundMe page was set up to help his family pay for his funeral and aimed to reach £8,000.
But the current total stands at £18,080 thanks to Henderson’s classy gesture and other donations.
Henderson came through the ranks at Sunderland before joining Liverpool in a £20million deal in 2011.
On Brown’s GoFundMe page, Henderson said: “All our thoughts are with the family and friends of Connor at this heart breaking time. RIP Connor.”
The page was set up by Tracey Robinson, who urged people to take the ‘financial pressure away’ from Brown’s family by donating for funeral costs.
She said: “Connor was a beautiful, young 18-year-old boy with his life ahead of him. He was brutally murdered on a night out with his friends.
“I have known this family on a personal level for approximately 20 years. This family does not have one single bad word, bone or hair amongst them.
“They honestly and sincerely are the most loveliest family you could wish to call friends.”
