Kepa Arrizabalaga’s decision to defy Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri on Sunday has cost him a place in the side for tonight’s visit of Tottenham.
Willy Caballero has been given the nod to start at Stamford Bridge ahead of the Spaniard, who refused to be substituted in the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City.
Despite Sarri playing down the incident as a ‘misunderstanding’, Kepa was fined one week’s wages and publicly apologised to both his manager and his teammates the following day.
Speaking ahead of the match to BT Sport, Sarri explained his reason: “It’s a choice, it’s a message for my group.”
When asked exactly what that message is, he defiantly replied: “We are a group and not 25 players. It’s my choice.”
