Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino are not under pressure to win trophies, according to Sam Allardyce.

Neither coach has lifted a piece of silverware since taking charge of their respective club, although not for the want of trying.

Klopp could well end that barren run this term, with his Reds side currently sitting atop the Premier League table. However, a one-point advantage is almost no advantage at all with Manchester City nipping at their heels.

Liverpool were seven points clear at one point earlier this season, so if they do lose out to City it would surely go down as one of the biggest title failures in Premier League history.

Meanwhile, Tottenham have seen their distant title hopes shatter after back-to-back defeats to Burnley and Chelsea, which have left the club battling for a top-four spot instead.

But, asked if Klopp or Pochettino could be under pressure if they fail to win any trophies this season, Allardyce told talkSPORT: “No. I think the owners of Liverpool and Tottenham are very supportive.

“I think they would be disappointed, but they would probably say, ‘what do you need to get better?’

“I’m not so sure about Tottenham, in terms of the money they’ll be able to find for Mauricio because of the cost of the stadium, which has to be a factor.

“But at Liverpool it might be a different story. Their funds are increasing, they’ve got money in the bank and I think they might say, ‘we’ll give you a little bit more to try and win it next season’.

“So I don’t think Klopp or Pochettino will have a problem.”
