Form often matters little when it comes to any clash between Real Madrid and Barcelona, according to the striker

Barcelona forward Luis Suarez insisted form meant little when it came to the El Clasico, as his team prepare to host Real Madrid.

Madrid coach Julen Lopetegui is under enormous pressure with his side seventh in La Liga and four points behind Barca, who sit in first despite some uneven form of their own to begin the season.

But Suarez, who has four goals and four assists in nine league games this season, said the teams’ form often mattered little.

“You have to take into account the latest results of the team, but Clasicos are Clasicos,” he told Barcelona’s website.

“I don’t think anyone will be thinking about the the other’s emotional state or that the other side hasn’t been playing well and other is doing better.

“It’s El Clasico.”

Suarez described the unique intensity of a Clasico, saying the clash between the rivals was simply different.

“You aren’t as relaxed as you are in other games, the adrenaline rush is different, so is the intensity,” he said.

“But you have to try to do what you always do so that the team wins.”

Barcelona will enter the contest without Lionel Messi, who broke his arm in the club’s win last weekend over Sevilla.

However, Barcelona responded with a 2-0 victory over Inter midweek in the Champions League, to take their unbeaten streak to five games.
