Gianfranco Zola has reportedly been re-admitted to hospital after suffering complications from gallstone surgery.
Chelsea’s assistant manager was not on the bench for their fifth-round FA Cup defeat to Manchester United on Monday after having surgery last week.
Zola had been expected to return to the dugout alongside Maurizio Sarri for their Europa League clash with Malmo on Thursday.
Sky Sports News, though, are reporting that this is unlikely to be the case and the club is not putting any timescale on his return.
It will be a big blow for the under-pressure Sarri to not have his assistant on the sidelines with him.
The next two games could be crucial for the manager’s future at the club.
The Blues are defending a 2-1 lead over Malmo in the second-leg of the last-32 clash.
They then face Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday, a team who they were beaten 6-0 by earlier this month in the Premier League.
