Cesc Fabregas still expects Chelsea to win a trophy this season despite his former side’s dreadful run of form.

The Blues have suffered some terrible results since the turn of the year, including a 4-0 defeat to Bournemouth and a 6-0 hammering by Manchester City.

Under-fire Maurizio Sarri has seen his team eliminated from the FA Cup and replaced in the top four by Manchester United following the shocking string of results.

Next up, it’s a trip to Wembley to face their tormentors City in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.

But Fabregas, who left Stamford Bridge for Monaco in January, insists his old club can pull off a surprise.

He told CNN Sport: “No, listen, these things happen. It’s a shame really because it’s difficult to experience 4-0 defeats, 6-0 defeats.

“Well, it does (surprise me) because I never experienced that at Chelsea in my five years.

“This is a good team, though, and I believe in them.

“I’m sure they can still win titles this year. 100 per cent I believe that, so they just need to put things together because now is the right time to do it.

“Nothing is lost.

“They can still fight for many things and we have to make sure that we don’t regret it at the end.”

Reports claim Sarri will lose his job if his team fail to win the Carabao Cup on Sunday.

Former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has emerged as one of the favourites to take charge at Stamford Bridge, while club legend and current Derby boss Frank Lampard is also thought to be in the running.
