Callum Hudson-Odoi has returned to the fringes of the Chelsea squad despite being promised more game time under Maurizio Sarri.

Hudson-Odoi was subject of a £35million bid from Bayern Munich during January and the teenager wanted to go.

The forward was frustrated with the lack of first-team opportunities and tried to force through the move to the Bundesliga club.

Chelsea promised him more game time in the first-team in an effort to keep him at Stamford Bridge.

During January, Sarri said: “He is very young, and he has a very great future here in England with the national team and with Chelsea. To stay here is better for him.

“He is ready I think for the big games. Of course we have very important players in the same position.

“Do people want Willian on the bench? Or Pedro? I can play with only two wingers.

“Three is difficult – but now he is ready. He can play.

“Of course sometimes he will be on the bench but that is the same as others. I can start to consider him on the same level.”

Hudson-Odoi played for 214 minutes during the five months before the January transfer window.

During that month, he played 199 minutes and made starts in their two FA Cup ties.

The forward has played just 19 minutes, though, since the window closed and did not start in either their Europa League tie with Malmo or the FA Cup match with Manchester United, which he was an unused substitute in.

Hudson-Odoi is also yet to start a match in the Premier League for Chelsea.
